Cost Benefits Of Post-Formed Doorsets
High-quality PVC post-formed doorsets are more cost-effective than painted, veneered or laminated doorsets over the long term.
Post-formed doorsets require virtually no maintenance over their 10-year operational lifespan. This offers you the following advantages:

Cost Savings Through Less Maintenance
Most timber-lipped doors with edge protection and half-height PVC kick plates cost around £500 to £600.
In a high-traffic healthcare environment, the edge protectors and kick plates may need to be replaced every 6 to 12 months, and the complete doorset may also require replacement during the 10-year period.
Taking into account maintenance, a post-formed doorset will become more cost-effective than a veneer or laminate door after around three to four years.
Beyond that point, the whole-of-life cost of a veneer or laminate door will rise to nearly £2,500 over 10 years. But the cost of a £1,000 PVC post-formed doorset will remain virtually flat because so little maintenance is needed.
Those calculations are based on value engineering as published in The Green Book. Calculations are based on a time horizon of 10 years, taking into consideration initial purchase, repairs and maintenance.
Helping NHS Trusts To Reduce Their Maintenance Backlog
Post-formed doorsets that require little or no maintenance help contractors to underpin and strengthen their relationships with NHS Trusts. The hospitals benefit from a solution that does not further add to their estate repair bills – a welcome advantage, given the rise in the NHS maintenance backlog.
The cost to eradicate the NHS maintenance backlog was put at £11.638 billion in 2022/23, an increase of 13.56% on the previous 12 months, according to Estates Returns Information Collection (ERIC) data.
By far the biggest rise was in the cost to eradicate the high-risk backlog. That stood at £2.363 billion in 2022/2023 – up 30.95% on the previous period.
But even the low-risk backlog – £1.3184 billion – was up 10.13%. There were rises of 8.09% and 11.65% in the moderate-risk and significant-risk backlogs respectively.
Doorsets may represent only a tiny fraction of the overall maintenance backlog, but the fewer repairs that are added to this accumulation will obviously help the NHS in the long term.
