New speaker series spotlights thought leaders in healthcare design

Specialist Door Solutions is launching the SDS Speaker Programme, a new event series designed to foster greater collaboration between NHS estates leaders, construction professionals, healthcare architects and policy influencers.

Hosted at the SDS Hub in London, the programme aims to advance practical solutions to the most pressing challenges facing those working on the design/construction/management of both new and existing buildings in the UK healthcare estate.

Each session will focus on sector-specific issues such as compliance, backlog maintenance, fire safety, and sustainable design—offering an open platform for connection, knowledge sharing and industry-led innovation.

Russell James, Strategic Partnership Director at SDS, said:

“There are some excellent discussion forums that have developed within the sector and we are keen to support progression of these partnerships, bringing together operational and strategic leaders in healthcare design and delivery.

“We know first-hand the value of events like these – earlier this year we hosted the inaugural NHS Fire Safety Forum and received an excellent response. We want to replicate that to help tackle some of the most pressing issues we know colleagues are facing. The SDS Speaker Programme provides space for that important ongoing dialogue—linking policy and planning with on-the-ground expertise.”

Event topics will include:

  • Backlog maintenance – Tackling ageing and non-compliant estate infrastructure across the NHS.
  • Navigating compliance – Managing evolving regulatory frameworks and future-proofing capital projects.
  • Advancing fire safety – Sharing new approaches and technologies for fire protection and design in clinical environments.
  • Sustainability in healthcare – Driving progress toward Net Zero through estates strategy and capital development.
  • The Standardisation debate – Exploring the balance between standardisation and specialisation in maintaining patient care, estate efficiency, and local flexibility.
  • Delivery model innovation – Streamlining healthcare efficiency with smarter project and facility management.
  • Exploring social value – Balancing national collaboration and competing budget pressures with the delivery of value for local communities.

With a focus on practical insights and lived experience, the SDS Speaker Programme invites contributions from a broad range of experts involved in the design, construction and management of the healthcare built environment, including NHS estates leaders, healthcare architects and construction managers.

Russell continued:

“This is an opportunity for leaders in our sector to inspire and inform their professional colleagues, shaping the future of healthcare estate design and performance through valuable partnerships.”
