Building smarter for a more sustainable future

LAST MONTH CAME THE WELCOME NEWS OF £3.7BN AGREED BY THE GOVERNMENT TO FUND A PROGRAM OF 40 NEW HOSPITAL CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS.

The rising cost of maintaining hospitals that have reached the end of their operational life is outweighing the cost of rebuilding. The make do and mend approach is no longer a long term sustainable solution. With the possible rise of a second wave of Covid-19 has come a bit of a revolution in the way we work. It seems construction is turning to innovative approaches to  future proof new builds using a more flexible design approach and taking a longer-term view, recognising the importance of supply chain stability and embracing new processes.

The World Economic Forum is urging a shift towards more eco-friendly materials and sustainable building practices, maximising the use of digital tools to increase productivity, including streamlining how critical information is shared and a more collaborative approach to new projects.
