What are Vision Panels?

Vision Panels are the small window in a door, allowing people to clearly see through without having to open the door or seeing who is the other side before opening.

Vision panels come in many different shapes, sizes and layouts, and are an important part of many internal door sets. Vision panels are required on a number of door sets in order to comply with safety regulations, light admittance and user comfort.

Specialist Door Solutions have been in the industry for many years, and therefore have plenty of experience in making sure vision panels comply with a wide range of rules and regulations. For example, doors placed within entrances and reception areas, and other appropriate internal doors must have appropriate vision panels, to make sure users of the door can be clearly seen.

Doors in these areas should also have correctly sized vision panels; the minimum zone of visibility should be between 500mm and 1500mm from the floor.

A vision panel can be broken up into two separate panels, but the separation cannot be too big, and the ‘zone of visibility’ must be maintained. This is so when you are looking through the vision panel’s, you can both see small children in the lower vision panel and adults in the upper and lower vision panel in case they are obstructing your pathway through the door way.

Of course, there are doors where vision panels aren’t needed, such as areas where privacy is required, in places like toilets and changing rooms, or areas where light needs to be controlled.
