The project focused on transforming the children’s emergency environment into a bright, modern and welcoming space designed to improve patient experience and facilitate intuitive wayfinding.

About the project.

King’s College Hospital serves a population of over 700,000 across Southwark and Lambeth and acts as a tertiary referral centre for specialist services across the South of England.

The paediatric department forms a key part of this provision, with:

  • A dedicated critical care centre

  • A day care unit

  • A children’s outpatient department

  • Four inpatient wards

The refurbishment of the A&E Paediatric Department aimed to create a bright, vibrant and child-centred environment that would improve the experience of young patients and their carers from the moment they arrive.
