The SDS team had an incredible and very busy few days at this year’s IHEEM Healthcare Estates 2025 in Manchester. The event once again proved to be the centre for innovation, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing across the healthcare design and construction community.
Insightful presentations and meaningful discussions.
Our Senior Project Consultant, Fergus James, delivered an engaging and thought-provoking presentation on “The Cost of Getting It Wrong vs the Value of Getting It Right". His talk highlighted the real-world implications of early decision-making, emphasising the long-term value of investing in quality design, specification, and installation.
Proud sponsors of the Architects for Health Networking Area.
SDS were proud to once again sponsor the Architects for Health (AfH) networking area. Our very own Russell James introduced and hosted the 'Fireside Chats', featuring an insightful discussion between Jaime Bishop, Chair of the Executive Committee at AfH, and Doug Baldock, Executive Director at the New Hospital Programme. Their conversations explored topics including the NHP's single-bed prototype room and NHSE’s upcoming HBN and HTM updates – highlighting the importance of continuous learning and shared expertise within the healthcare design community.
Presenting on lifecycle cost savings.
Russell also delivered a presentation in the Design and Construction Theatre titled “Creating Lifecycle Cost Savings Through Strategic Planning of Doorsets”. His session focused on the impact of proactive planning, demonstrating how waiting for doors to fail can lead to inflated repair costs and increased operational risk. By adopting a strategic approach to standardisation and lifecycle management, healthcare facilities can significantly reduce costs, ease maintenance pressures, and ensure compliance.
Looking ahead.
We’re leaving Manchester inspired, energised, and deeply appreciative of the connections and insights gained at IHEEM Healthcare Estates 2025. Every year, this event reminds us just how powerful collaboration, shared knowledge, and forward-thinking design can be in creating safer, more sustainable healthcare spaces.
We had countless enriching conversations throughout the event – a huge thank you to everyone who stopped by our stand to connect, share insights, and discuss ideas that continue to shape the future of healthcare environments. We can’t wait to see you again next year!
