Specialist Door Solutions was recently commissioned to provide a range of doorsets for the new Urgent and Emergency Care Centre (UECC) at Scarborough Hospital - a significant milestone in healthcare infrastructure for the region.
About the project.
The £47 million facility, the largest capital investment ever undertaken by York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, was designed to replace the existing A&E department and transform urgent care services.
The project's primary objectives were to reduce patient waiting times by enhancing patient flow, improve overall treatment efficiency and expand available floor space while maintaining bed capacity.

Project delivery.
The project was delivered through a collaborative effort involving York & Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Integrated Health Projects (IHP) as the principal contractor, and Arcadis.
- A mix of colours, including Dfend Snowflake, Gunpowder and Flint, to complement the vibrant wall colours and furniture.

- SDS team worked closely with the architects and contractors to create detailed door schedules, ensuring the right product was used in each location.
- One of the primary challenges was maintaining a high-quality door specification throughout the facility while minimising costs.

IHP's performance as the principal contractor was exemplary, achieving a perfect 100% score four times in every quality check under the 'Considerate Constructors' scheme - assessing IHP’s application of its three key Code of Considerate Practice themes of Respecting the Community, Protecting the Environment, and Valuing the Workforce. IHP went on to win an award with Constructing Excellence for the UECC project, under the category of Integration and Collaborative Working.
